Report from CM Algaron Xerves about Wing II Pilot league season 1: //Note: link to site http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm is incorrect, //current site is at http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/W2PL. //Note2: Report is REALLY long, i collected most of emails concerning it but //read at least Final Results section. Pilots of Wing II, I have today submitted my proposition for a Wing II Pilot League to the Training Office for approval. If all goes through it will start on Saturday 17 February. As usual check out the website I have created for the most up to date information regarding the running of this competition. http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm I am really hoping that we have 100% participation across the Wing in this competition both in its first Season, and also subsequently in future Seasons. Therefore rather than email me to say you want to participate I would like to assume everyone is involved unless they email me to say the want to be excluded. The running of this competition has been a personal goal of mine since joining the Tie Corps and I hope you can all appreciate both the work I have already put in and the work I will more than happily put in once we get started. This would be a good time therefore to thank Captain Todbringer who has very graciously offered to help run the competition. A number of issues still require final clarification and I would appreciate feedback regarding them. 1) The season length - I have decided on an initial 12 week run for Season 1 - I considered 20 weeks to be too long and 10 to be short?? 2) Pilots per division - this is the big one - if we get 100% participation we will have 45 pilots competing in Season 1 - I believe the best split would be 4 divisions with 10 pilots in each of Divisions 1/2/3 and the remainder in Division 4. I have always believed a Division system with seasonal promotion and relegation would make the whole competition far more interesting. 3) Division assignment - who gets to go into Division 1? - I think there are 3 ways to do this - comments on each please: i) Total FCHG points - easiest. ii) FCHG points divided by months in the Tie Corps - gives new, but active pilots the chance to be in the top divisons. (my personal preference). iii) A playoff - the fairest way, but also the hardest to administer. 4) Awards? - with the new Training Office rules regarding medals we don't have as much to give out as I would like - according to the Rules the maximum prize for winning a Wing comp. is the Iron Star with Bronze Ribbon - considering the effort that is likely required to win this thing I would like the prizes on offer to be greater - do people agree, and if so what can we do about it? That should cover most things up to this point - please lets get some discussion going to confirm everything as we only have a little under 2 weeks before I would like to start the first Season. I truly believe that with mass participation from the Wing this could be one of the best and longest running competitions the Tie Corps has ever seen. Thanks in advance, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Playoff: OK I think a playoff would be the best way to decide the new division structure - therefore I suggest the following..... Fly FREE-TIE 1 (As good a place as anywhere to start!) by 15th February - giving me a couple of days to then sort out all the divisions before a season start on the 17th. Submit the TFR to me - I will submit mine to CPT Todbringer for verification. If anyone has any problems flying the mission (bugs in the mission etc.) then email me and we will try and work something out. The more people get involved and soon the better this competition will be. By the way if I have noticeably missed anyone out on this mailing list or if anyone new joins your squadrons in the meantime then please forward this mail onto them. Thanks in advance, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Playoff results: W2PL Pilots, Welcome to the Wing II Pilot League. Over the next 12 weeks we are going to find the most consistent pilot and squadron from Wing II (both past and present). The Playoff for deciding the initial division assignments has finished and the results can be found on the pilot page of the W2PL site.... http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm Division 1 ---------- Well done to LT Mayk Drazzic who's confidence is not misplaced given his position right at the top of the table. Sigma squadron have shown why the have such a good reputation with 4 of their pilots qualifying for Division 1 (CMDR Artyis, Tod, Rasxus and Duncan). I also think special mention should go to Kappa's young guns - we in Kappa know that Tempest is something of a hotshot, but he will be joined in Division 1 by LT Dunkat - suprising both himself and the rest of the Wing with an awesome flying display! Two of the old guard show that Inkwolf's Squeaker Pack will be a force to be reckoned with - Carl Lost and Shakur will compete for the big prize. Rounding out the top 10 is the irrepresible LC Ford. Division 2 ---------- This division will be the initial home of some of Wing II's most respected pilots - Wing II Commander Inkwolf, Kappa Commander Astarosta, Theta Commander Michael Emrys, and Sin Commander Stele Pellaeon. A lot of years and medals in that illustrious foursome. Joining them will be myself and Wing III Commander Sasquatch. Other challengers for the Division II championship trophy will be a couple more of Sigma's finest in Regis Knox and Koriel, my fellow Kappa Flight II buddy Reb, and Sin's John Doe. Divison 3 --------- Don't underestimate pilots in this division. A number of Wing IIs new recruits will be chomping at the bit to rise up to the higher leagues, along with some superb pilots who unfortunately failed to make the playoff deadline. Points scored in Division III will also play a crucial role in deciding which team wins the Squadron Awards. Going for promotion will be Thetans Fat Boy, Rhavyn and Vorsaher, along with Otter and Nurell Turr from Psi. Kappa will be represented by Tim and the Lord of the Ties Ninjawolf. Currently rounding out the division having missed the deadline, but still very much part of the race for promotion, we have Jan Wemmel, Delphancq and Jack Stone. Good Luck to everyone involved - I'll be sending out an email shortly with the assignment for Week 1 - the deadline will be 23:59 GMT on Friday - this next email will only be going to those participating so if you haven't contacted me yet and want to be a part of W2PL I suggest you do so ASAP. That'll do for now - I'll be in airlock54 for the next hour or so, and W2PL pilots can expect the Week 1 email shortly. Regards, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 1: W2PL Pilots, It is with great pleasure that I announce the moment I have been waiting for the some time - the Wing II Pilot League has begun! The web site as always is... http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm Please take note of the Rules page as I will be following them strictly for the next 12 weeks. The assignment for Week 1 is to fly FREE-TIE #153 - "Tod's Anniversary". Laserless scoring will be in effect for this and every mission in W2PL. Please report any problems with this mission as early as possible - fortunately no bugs have been reported so far. The deadline for submission of this mission to me is 23:59 GMT on Friday 23rd February. For the first week I shall compile all of the results to see how it goes - if it proves too much to handle single-handed I will forward some on to CPT Todbringer to assist (if he doesn't mind of course). 32 pilots are on this email list - 6 of these pilots did not submit a TFR but are still entered in the League, and with the exception of CM Jon Doyle (who is awaiting a computer to use to take part) all will have an impact on the Squadron scores from Week 1. By this I mean that any points you score (or don't score) will go into the squadron total - and bear in mind that there is an Average as well as a Total Squadron Score Trophy at stake - so if you fail to fly in a week your score of 0 will adversely effect your teams average score as well as your own personal score - therefore I suggest that Squadron Commander's try to make sure they get as close to 100% participation out of their team members as possible every week. Therefore if any pilot does not wish to participate further I suggest you make it known now or your team will suffer as a result. That is all for now - any questions/problems will be promptly answered. I salute you all, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 1 Results: W2PL Pilots, Well we have finally come to the end of the first week of the Wing II Pilot League and it is already not without controversy. The mission in FREETIE #148 was to protect the Platform Cantina until Imperial Ships arrived. The usual assortment of Rebel Fighters had to be fought off to achieve this. However, given that the Platform itself has been classified by the mission designer as IFF3 (rather than Imperial) it is possible to destroy the platform after the primary goals have been completed yielding an extra few thousand points. I consider this a mission bug, but because we only discovered after a large number of submissions had been made I have decided to take no action - pilots who have gained an advantage by destroying the platform will not be penalised in any way and their scores stand for the week. A number of people have claimed that destroying 'friendly ships' to gain extra points is not really in the spirit of the Tie Corps - and I have to say I agree with this. However, the fault here lies in the design of the mission not in any of our pilots, which explains my reasons for letting all scores stand. I will be more careful in future to pick more suitable missions though. OK, onto the scores - LT Tempest is the weeks top scorer, closely followed by LT John Doe and CPT Shakur. As such Tempest leads the way in Division 1 from Shakur and Carl Lost. John Doe heads Division 2 with Kappans Astarosta and myself in close attendance. Lastly, but by no means least in Division 3 Canen Otter, Al R.S and Stark Rhavyn move into the three promotion positions. However, bear in mind that this is a marathon not a sprint and things are very likely to change over the course of the next 11 rounds (also remember that 2 of these rounds will be Tie Battles where the scores can really change). All the scores are viewable on the website Results page. Check it out at: http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm Thanks everyone for taking part and getting the competition off to a successful start. I have still included a number of people on this email who have not flown in any of the first two assignments. If anyone wants to be removed from the email list let me know and I will do so. Also pilots are more than able to join the comp. at any stage so squad CMDRs keep reminding your pilots about what we are all doing here. I will be sending out a separate email with Week 2's assignments shortly. Regards, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 2: W2PL Pilots, The mission for Week 2 is to fly FREETIE-27 called "Ace #3" - this is really back to the old school flying putting you and your wingmen in the cockpit of the good ol' Tie Fighter against the Rebellion's best and bravest. Lots of ships to kill (and kill you!) and plenty of points on offer. As usual in your Tie Fighter you'll have no shields, no ions and no missiles - just a couple of laser cannons and your wits to protect you. Regarding the deadline I have decided to modify the weekly deadline from Friday 23:59 GMT to Saturday 20:00 GMT - this gives pilots who are busy during the week some weekend time to fly the mission. Also, I am on holiday from Friday 2nd March to Saturday 10th March. Therefore, you will all have an extra week to fly this mission to meet the deadline of 20:00 GMT Saturday 10th March. No excuses for not flying it then! Good luck everybody, I think you're going to need it! I've attached the mission. Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 2 Results and Week 3: W2PL Pilots, Well I'm back from my holiday on the Italian slopes and have had a large amount of emails to go through in order to get the W2PL back on course. It's been an exciting round with big changes in the Division Leaderboards. The results for Week 2 are as follows. The top 3 overall scorers were: 1) LT Drazzic 2) MAJ Astarosta 3) MAJ Artyis All the other results can be found on the Results page of the W2PL site - if you want to dispute any of your scores email me today so I can sort it out. http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm LT Drazzic's very impressive score of 106256 will take him right back to the top of the pile. Drazzic's score eclisped anything anybody else achieved by 40000 points, and will also see him rise to the top ranking position on the Kill Board. Roasty's performance will also see him take the lead in Division 2. MAJ Artyis may have moved down from Sigma Squadron Commander, but this has not affected his flying performances in any way - his third place overall will again boost his League position. I am currently in the process of compiling all the league tables and will be sending a separate email later today with this information (I am about half way through at the moment). I have, however, chosen the assignment for Week 3 - the orders are to fly FREE-TIE 119 "Snake Eyes" (Attached) - the deadline is 6PM GMT Saturday 17th March, but as always I will be a bit lenient with accepting TFRs just missing the deadline - try not to make a habit of it though! I have not tested this mission yet, but I have noticed that there are some friendly/neutral ships involved again - pilots who destroy these ships for additional points will receive a score of zero for the round. On a final note - I have been doing a bit of maintenance on my email list for this comp. - if anyone wants to be removed let me know. Can Squadron Commanders also let there pilots who are not involved that they can still join at any time should they want. Good luck everybody, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 3 Results and Week 4: W2PL Pilots, Here is a rundown of the updated League Tables. Bear in mind that the Div 1 table is pending the submittal of Shakur's TFR - due to RL issues I am giving him until tommorow night to submit - also what applies to one applies to all so any pilot who is yet to fly Week 3 can still do so as long as I receive it by end of day tommorow (especially important for Esm'ael Rasxux and Sasquatch who will be staring relegation in the face if they are unable to keep up). DIVISION 1 ---------- Despite placing only 8th on the week Mayk Drazzic maintains his lead at the top of the table, but the gap to the chasing pack has been cut substantially. Tempest and Artyis are leading the hunt to catch and overhaul Theta's ace. DIVISION 2 ---------- In the nick of time Roasty submits his TFR, but just like Drazzic can only place in 8th for the week. As such Division 2 is the most exciting of the divisions with just 20,000 points dividing the top 7. Impressive scores from Inky and Michael Emrys put them into the 2 other promotion positions. DIVISION 3 ---------- Sigma's new boy Cahir takes pole position in Division 3 and one must wonder if anything will stop him from claiming the title and promotion to Division 3. His 30,000 point lead at the top is the largest leading margin to date. The two Thetans Akira and Stark Rhavyn lead the chase. The late entry of Psi's CM Jon sees him come straight in 6th place - he will have his work cut out to get into the Top 3. Little change in the other leaderboards - Draz still leads the "Kill Leader" rankings, and Roasty tops the "Sharp Shooter" list. Also no change in the Squadron orderings. Which leads me on to the assigment for Week 4. The assignment to fly is FREE TIE 83 "Tad-1" (attached) - the deadline is 6PM GMT on Sunday 25th March - this is another real dog-fighting mission putting you in the cockpit of the good ol' Tie Interceptor - good luck everybody. Regards, CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 4 Results part 1: W2PL Pilots, Results for Week 4 are on the website at..... http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm Sorry I haven't had time to compile the squadron results or the league tables tonight, but rest assured they shall be done tommorow. The top 3 scoring pilots are all from Division 1 this week. They are: 1) Artyis 2) Drazzic 3) Todbringer It was a tough mission as many of you found out - should people have such big problems in the future flying an assignment let me know and I will do my best to help out - infact this mission could have been completed fairly easily if you'd backed off and let the VSD do the hard work - if you stay out of the battle you can avoid getting attacked by the z95s and r41s - your fellow Interceptor pilots will engage for you - then once the VSD comes into range of the platforms it will start bombarding them with a torrent of turbolaser fire - once down to about 60% hull you can come in with 4 heavy rockets on each platform to finish the job and claim the kills - then mop up any fighter cover safe in the knowledge that primary missions have been completed - that's the easy way! The hard way is to dive in head first and take on the 25 z95s, 25 r41s, 10 xwings and 7 bwings that will come your way whilst avoiding the laser fire from the platforms, all in an unshielded craft capable of taking only a couple of stray laser hits - all in a days work I hear you say!!!! Anyway congrats to the 3 top scoring pilots in Division 1. This weeks top guns in Division 2 were Stele, myself and Astarosta (with Roasty once again hitting an amazing 98% of his targets - the force is unusually strong in this one!) Division 3 was once again headed by Sigma's Cahir who surely looks odds on to claim the trophy and promotion into the higher echelons. Gambit and Stark Rhavyn battled it out for 2nd and 3rd respectively. That's all for now - I shall have another report for you all tommorow with the Squadron and Individual League Tables - remember this weeks assignment of FREETIE 91 has a strict deadline of 6PM GMT on Sunday - given that daylight saving time comes into effect for many next weekend I will be lenient to about 1 to 2 hours either way should people get mixed up, but no more than that I'm afraid. Good luck everyone, Algaron Week 4 Results part 2: W2PL Pilots, With Week 4 at an end who is up and who is down? Here is a brief run-down.......... Division 1 Mayk Drazzic maintains his lead at the top of the pile, but the week's top scoring pilot Artyis is not far behind him. Tempest swaps places with Artyis this week, but is still in touch in third. Tod's great score enables him to climb up out of the relegation zone from 8th to 5th. Esmael Rasxux has retired to the Reserves and his score is unlikely to change for the rest of the season. That leaves only 2 relegation spots to try and avoid. At present Ford and Shakur occupy these 8th and 9th positions respectively. Division 2 Another competitive score keeps Roasty at the head of Division 2, but it is a slim lead indeed with both myself and Koriel rising up the leaderboard into the 2 promotion positions after scoring well this week. Stele's top of Division 2 score lifts him just out of relegation trouble from 9th to 7th. John Doe stays in 8th place while Reb drops alarmingly from 5th to 9th. Those two will have to go some to avoid the drop. I've had no contact from Sas since Week 1 - he now seems doomed to finish 10th and down into Division 3. Division 3 Cahir's march towards the Division 3 Trophy seems unrelenting. Again he top scores in the division by a considerable margin and stretches his lead to nearly 50,000 points - can he be stopped, or should I start engraving his name on the cup now? With only 2 other division members scoring this week both Stark Rhavyn and Gambit were able to consolidate their positions for promotion - Stark remains 2nd while Gambit moves up a place into 3rd. However, both Akira and Jon have not given up yet. Canen Otter and Tim could also challenge, but neither has flown since Week 2. Squadron (Total) Inevitably Sigma continues toward victory in this category. The order remains the same. Squadron (Average) Theta still is the most consistently high scoring squadron in this arguably more important category. However, their lead at the top has been cut by Sigma who scored incredibly well this week. Kappa loses touch a little, but remains 3rd, with Squaeker, Sin and Psi not far behind. Much can still change with 8 weeks of the season remaining. Certificate Leaderboards Drazzic still has a considerable lead on the "Kill Leader" rankings with no change in the top 3. Roasty leads on both the "Sharp Shooter" and "Fox One" leaderboard. Incredibly Roasty has missed just 58 times in nearly 4000 shots with his lasers - seriously impressive stuff. But remember, missing just 1 week in the entire season would automatically disqualify a pilot from either of the two accuracy based competitions - motivation indeed! That's all for now folks - good luck with FREETIE 91 - I'm off to fly it now - remember this weeks deadline will be strictly enforced on 6PM GMT on Sunday. CM Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 5: W2PL Pilots, Given that participation is way down this week (and I must admit I'm getting a bit dismayed by this given the amount of work I'm putting in to keep this competition running) the deadline for Week 4 (FREETIE83) will be extended to 6PM GMT tommorow. (That's 1PM EST/7PM CET). So far I have had 7 submissions in Div 1, 7 in Div 2, but only 2 so far in Div 3 - what's going on their guys - how hard is it to fly 1 Free Mission a week? Week 5 Assignment is FREE TIE 91 "Mugaari Cargo Operation". The deadline is 6PM GMT on Sunday April 1st. This week (and all subsequent weeks) I intend to fully enforce this deadline - miss it and you will score 0 for the week. It's a high scoring mission so a zero score will seriously jeopardise your total score. That's all for now - results will be published tommorow. Algaron ************************************************************************ Awards update: W2PL Pilots, It has been brought to my attention that part of the reason we are not seeing as much activity in Division 3 as we are in the top 2 Divisions is that pilots might feel that they don't have any chance of actually winning anything besides promotion. To rectify this and to give everyone the opportunity to see what is up for grabs in W2PL here is a quick rundown (I think I've got the Iron Star awards right - although I'll have to check that one with IWATS)....... Top Scoring Pilot in Division 1 ------------------------------- The Gold Trophy (with name engraved) - the ultimate accolade! Iron Star (Silver Wings) Top Scoring Pilot in Division 2 ------------------------------- The Silver Trophy (with name engraved) Iron Star (Bronze Wings) Top Scoring Pilot in Division 3 ------------------------------- The Bronze Trophy (with name engraved) - I am in the process of creating this Iron Star (Bronze Wings) Winner of Laser/Warhead/Kill Rankings ------------------------------------- Certificates (with name) Iron Star (Bronze Wings) Top Total Scoring Squadron -------------------------- Trophy (with Squad name engraved) - to be created Top Average Scoring Squadron ---------------------------- Trophy (with Squad name engraved) - tbc Top 5 Overall Scores (In Each Category) ---------------------------------------- Position in the "Hall of Fame" - which will be published upon Season 1 end (and updated after each subsequent Season). And of course my undying respect to all the winners and participants after 12 weeks of gruelling battle! OK - so that's what you are all fighting for - as you can see there is plenty there for the winning in all 3 of the Divisions. Regards, Algaron ************************************************************************ Week 5 Results and Week 6: W2PL Pilots, Week 5 of the W2PL has come to an end. The scoring for this week has been very close with not a great deal separating the main contenders. The Overall Top Scoring Pilots for Week 5 once again all come from Division 1. They are... 1) Todbringer - 71514 2) Mayk Drazzic - 68536 3) Roger Duncan - 68348 I've published both results and tables at the same time this week, so here's a quick rundown. Division 1 Little change in the tables this week. The only position movements has been that Dunkat and Carl Lost have swapped places to lie in 6th and 7th respectively. Mayk extends his lead ever so slightly from Artyis in second. Tod's top score moves him closer to the chasing pack. Ford loses a little ground on the rest of the field and remains in the third Relegation slot, along with the non-flying Shakur and the retired Esmael Rasxux. Division 2 Roasty top scores once again and extends his lead at the top. He is looking good for the Division 2 Silver Trophy. Despite finishing 5th and 7th on the week, myself and Koriel retain our positions in the Top 3. The big mover this week was John Doe who by finishing second to Roasty moves out of the Releagation Zone into 6th overall. The non-flying Stele drops into 9th. Reb's score is good for 3rd place in Division 2 on the week, and he moves up a place to 8th. Inkwolf had better watch over her shoulder with Kappa's ace on such good form. Division 3 Cahir continues his processional march towards the Division 3 Bronze Trophy with another top-scoring effort. Stark Rhavyn consolidates his 2nd postion with a high scoring effort. It looks like the 3rd Promotion position will be fought over by three pilots - Gambit, Akira and Jon. Gambit has the edge so far, but there are plenty of points still on offer and no-one will have given up yet. Squadron Tables No changes at all in the positions for both Squadron Leaderboards from last week, although good weeks for both Kappa and Sigma close the gap on Theta in the Average Score Table. Certificate Rankings Again no change at the top of the 3 Leaderboards. Week 6 (Battle Week No. 1) At the half way point we come to the first of the two Battle Weeks. We will be flying a 4 mission battle as opposed to the usual single mission, so lots of points and kills will be on offer for the top scoring pilots. It will also give a chance for some of pilots who have missed a few weeks to get right back into the mix. We will be flying TC-TIE 48 "Ski Hoth". This mission should get the "Fox One" rankings a little more interesting given that it is a Missile Boat battle. Pilots will be firing upwards of 500 warheads during the course of this battle! The deadline will be 6PM GMT Sunday 8th April. If you need an extension let me know before this deadline otherwise you will score zero for the week, and given that around 300,000 points are on offer that would be very counter-productive! Before anyone asks the question I am well aware that Squeaker's Carl Lost holds the current high score - I have already informed him today that he will need to re-fly the battle rather than re-submit an old TFR - the challenge for the rest of you will be to beat Carl's original mark. That's all for now - the full spreadsheet of scores to-date is available for download on the History page of the main site. http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm Good Luck Everyone! Algy ************************************************************************ Week 6 Results part 1 and Week 7: W2PL Pilots, We have reached the half way point in this gruelling competition. I have a number of results still pending after granting Monday night extensions to Roasty, Reb and Stele. Given that here are the provisional top 3 placings for Week 6. 1) Artyis 2) Carl Lost 3) Roger Duncan Division 1 Artyis yet again top scores overall and increases the pressure on Mayk Drazzic who only manages 5th on the week. Carl Lost puts in one of his best performances so far and will ease any thoughts of relegation from Division 1. Roger Duncan maintains his very consistent form with another podium position. In a high scoring and closely matched week only 5000 points separate Tod in 4th to Tempest in 7th. Ford loses a little ground back in 8th. Division 2 With Roasty's result pending John claims the week's top score to continue his remarkable revival. Two weeks ago he was staring potential relegation in the face, but another superb score will see him rise further toward a promotion spot. Not far behind in Regis Knox, another one of Sigma's consistent performers. My position in 3rd could change in 24 hours when Roasty finds the keys to his Missile Boat. Koriel puts in another solid score, but Mickk and Inky lose a little ground on the leaders. Roasty, Reb and Stele still pending. Divison 3 Cahir top scores for the 5th consecutive time and only misses out on an overall podium position by a handful of points. Sigma's ace is looking unbeatable and surely can't be stopped from claiming the Bronze Trophy. Jon puts in a very good score, which will see him rise up the rankings, despite having missed a couple of weeks earlier on in the competition. Gambit, Akira and Stark Rhavyn are still battling away hard in the quest for promotion. Week 7 Assignment The orders for Week 7 are to fly one of the TC's best examples of mission design - FREE-TIE 106 "The Courtship of Callista" - I imagine a lot of you have flown it in the past, but it's such a good mission that I'm sure you won't resent having to fly it again. There is no battle1.lfd file in the attached zip - I'm sure most people have no trouble in creating them themselves, but if you are having trouble let me know and I will sort you out. However, if someone wants to create an .lfd file for everyone to use then attach it to a mail and send it out. Tables out tommorow when all the results are in. Good luck everyone, Algaron Week 6 Results part 2: W2PL Pilots, With all the results from Week 6 now in here's a brief rundown of the movers and shakers in each category. BTW, the additional scores for Div 2 can be seen on the Results page - well done to Stele for pushing me out of 3rd Place! Division 1 (Gold Trophy) No major changes. Drazzic's lead has been cut to 10,000 points after another top scoring week from Artyis. The only position changes this week have been that Carl Lost and Dunkat swapped places. Division 2 (Silver Trophy) No change in the Top 2, but plenty of movement below. The big gainers have been Regis Knox (up 2 places to 3rd), John Doe (up 2 places to 4th), Reb Crush (also up 2 places out of the relegation zone into 6th) and Stele (who moves up a place into 8th). Going in the wrong direction has been Koriel, Mickk and Inky who each drop a couple of positions. Things are still very tight at both ends of this exciting division. Division 3 (Bronze Trophy) I'm in the process of engraving Cahir's name on the Bronze Trophy. He has an unassailable 130,000 point lead in Division 3. All the other placings in the Division remain the same, but Jon has made great strides in catching up with the other promotion contenders. Squadron Total (Emperor's Plate) No change in the ordering. Sigma march on! Squadron Average (Centurion Plate) Big changes! With 2 excellent scores this week Sin Squadron jump from 5th into 1st! They are benefitting from their small number of participants, but it might be a struggle for them to maintain that lead over an extended period against the larger squads. Theta drop from their place at the lofty heights into 4th. Kill Leader Little change. Drazzic maintains his healthy lead. Sharp Shooter We might as well give up now. Roasty has got this one sewn up. Where did I leave that blindfold? Fox One After firing 500+ warheads during TC-48 this competition was always going to get a bit more interesting. Little to separate the leaders, but Roasty has the edge over the chasing pack. So far the top 3 scorers this week are: 1) Artyis (again!) 67241 2) Roger Duncan (hardly ever out of the top 3!) 67155 3) Michael Emrys (flying his guts out!) 67100 Well done to everyone taking part - I hope you have all been to meet with Callista on mIRC to tell her you've completed her mission. Those who haven't are to be docked 50,000 points! (or was April Fools day last week?). A good mission I'm sure you'll agree, but perhaps a little easy - explaining how close the scores are this week. I won't go into too much depth with the results so far, albeit to say that Cahir again tops Division 3 for the 6th consequetive week! I don't think we'll see many changes to the leaderboards given the closeness of the scores. Full report to follow once all the results are in. WEEK 8 ------ Given the debate as to the relative merits of the Missile Boat I thought we could all have a bit more first hand experience. Therefore the assignment is FREE-TIE 105 "Blowing Crap Up". The deadline as usual is 6PM GMT next Sunday. Again this zip file doesn't have a battle1.lfd so if anyone is having trouble use the attached .lfd that I have created. Good Luck everyone, Algy ************************************************************************ Week 8 results: W2PL Pilots, Quick league update for you with only 4 weeks to go in W2PL. Division 1 Mayk's overall top scoring week gives him a bit of breathing space over Artyis in the race for the Gold Trophy. Aside from that a week of close scoring has meant no changes to the positions in Division 1. Division 2 Roasty's technical problems could not have come at a worse time. With 2 weeks of being unable to fly he has dropped from 1st to 9th. He'll be hoping to have a working copy of Tie Fighter available this week or it will be very difficult to climb out of the bottom 3. Regis Knox's overall 2nd place on the week has lifted him into the top spot by just 117 points over myself. John Doe has a 30,000 point advantage over the chasing pack for the 3rd guaranteed promotion spot. Division 3 Cahir's 140,000 point lead is maintained with another top score in Division 3. Again he missed out on an overall podium spot by a handful of points. I'm sure Cahir will be one of the favorites to challenge for the Silver Trophy next season. Stark remains 2nd, and Gambit and Akira will be battling hard over the next 4 weeks for that final guaranteed promotion place. Ninja and Nurel Turr both flew this week to improve their positions in Division 3. Emperor Plate No change - Sigma unchallenged for top spot. We'll get the next Season guys! Centurion Plate Sin maintain a slim lead over the chasing pack. Certificates Unfortunately to qualify for these awards you need to have flown in all 12 weeks of the competition. Sadly that means Roasty's dominant positions in both Sharp Shooter and Fox One have gone. A suprise entry sees Gambit take over the lead in Sharp Shooter, whilst Tempest takes control of Fox One. Mayk's lead in Kill Leader looks unassailable. Good Luck in Week 9 everybody, Algy ************************************************************************ Week 9: W2PL Pilots, Bit of a delay compliling all the results in this week, but while you are waiting I have chosen the assignment for Week 9. We are to get back in our trusty Tie Defenders and fly FREE-TIE 149 "Patrol of Somewhere". Don't freak out too much when the platform starts flying off at a fair rate of knots - just pretend it's perfectly normal and kill all those damn Imperials! Best of luck everyone, FL/CM Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign ISMx4/CoB/OV [PDLN]{IWATS-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan {SA: CORE) *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* "Oriundus Odium Enatus Vis Vires" ************************************************************************ Week 9 Results part 1 and Week 10: W2PL Pilots, A lot of extensions this week so these results are very provisional. That said it looks like Roasty has come back in style with a superb score. If nobody posts a better score in the next day or so it looks like for the first time the weeks top scorer will be from outside Division 1. Congrats Roasty - great to have you back! 1) Astarosta 94436 2) Carl Lost 86476 3) Artyis 84164 Once I've got all the extensions in tomorrow I'll post give my full weekly report. WEEK 10 ------- Just three weeks to go! The assignment for Week 10 is to fly FREE-TIE #126 "Ambush in the Belhassa Marches" - this mission puts as back in the trusty old Tie Fighter - the primary goals are very easy to complete but to get anywhere near the 130,000 top score you'll need to have a go at the much more difficult secondary and bonus goals. Good luck everyone - usual deadline next Sunday. FL/CM Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign ISMx4/CoB/OV [PDLN]{IWATS-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan {SA: CORE) *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* "Oriundus Odium Enatus Vis Vires" Week 9 Results part 2: W2PL Pilots, Week 9 comes to an end. With a number of scores outstanding yesterday's results were provisional. Roasty and Artyis will be disappointed to hear that Mayk Drazzic has posted a fantastic score to claim the weeks top spot for the 3rd time this season. Special praise also goes to Stark Rhavyn who not only runs Cahir's run of 7 straight Division 3 wins, but claims a podium spot on the week (the first time a Div 3 pilot has done so). Congrats to you sir. 1) Mayk Drazzic - 99836 2) Astarosta - 94436 3) Stark Rhavyn - 86559 How do all the weeks results effect the standings. Here is the rundown. Division 1 Mayk's score eclipsed anything else in Division 1 by a good 10,000 points. It looked like he was being reeled in by Artyis in recent weeks, but back to back week wins have given him a bit of breathing space. There are a lot of points still to play especially with a full battle to fly in Week 12. The race for 3rd place is also very exciting with just 10,000 points separating Tod in 6th to our new 3rd place man Roger Duncan. Division 2 Roasty comes back in style with 2nd place overall on the week posting a score 25,000 points ahead of his Division 2 rivals. Although not able to climb out of the Bottom 3 he has those in front of him well in his sights. Regis Knox, John Doe and myself are looking good for automatic promotion, with no changes in the ordering of the top 7 places. Division 3 Cahir's run had to end sometime! Stark can remember his performance in Week 9 with pride. He'll know be looking forward to flying against some of Wing II's top pilots in Division 2 next season. Cahir still leads by a huge margin, whilst Gambit and Akira continue to slug it out blow for blow in the race for the final automatic promotion spot. Nurel Turr moves up into 7th after coming back into the competition with renewed enthusiasm. Emperor Plate We'll get you next season Sigma!!!! Centurion Plate Sin's two hotshots continue to maintain their lead at the top for their squadron, but the lead is being reduced every week. The determination not to let Sigma win both plates must be a good incentive. Kappa remain 3rd. Certificates No change in Kill Leader, but Week 9 sees Tempest move into pole position for Sharp Shooter. Two medals could be coming his way if he maintains his slim lead over the chasing pack in both this and the Fox One categories. NB - You may have noticed that I'm not talking much about the 3 relegation places in the top two divisions. This is because some pilots may choose not to compete in Season 2 therefore creating empty slots in the tables. Depending on that we may have slight variations in the numbers going up/down. We might even have some exciting playoffs at the end of the season - watch this space and carry on flying hard! Full up-to-date results spreadsheet available for download on the History Page. http://www.emperorshammer.ca/kappa/W2League/start.htm That's all for now folks. Good luck in Week 10 everyone. FL/CM Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign ISMx4/CoB/OV [PDLN]{IWATS-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan {SA: CORE) *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* "Oriundus Odium Enatus Vis Vires" ************************************************************************ Week 10 Results part 1 and Week 11: W2PL Pilots, Lots of extensions again this week so I'll hold off until tomorrow with the full report. However, I will comment on Drazzic's fantastic scoring this week - it will take a huge effort to beat him now. Also well done to John Doe in Div 2 - a great score which will really help his challenge for the silver trophy. WEEK 11 ------- Back to your Missile Boats people - please fly FREE-TIE 60 "Hades 1" by Sunday 13th May. You'll find the mission attached. This is the last single Mission we will fly in Season 1 - Week 12 will be a full battle with lots of points to pick up to decide the final placings. http://kappa.squadron.org/W2League/start.htm Good Luck, FL/CM Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign ISMx4/CoB/OV [PDLN] {IWATS-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS-XTT} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan {SA: CORE) *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* "Oriundus Odium Enatus Vis Vires" Week 10 Results part 2: W2PL Pilots, Sorry about the delay in getting this report out, but we had lots of extensions this week. Well, with just 2 weeks left in Season 1 of W2PL we have had some exciting developments. The Podium Positions for the week are as follows: 1) Drazzic - 102873 (His third win in a row!) 2) Astarosta - 71525 (Second place for the second time in a row!) 3) John Doe - 68140 (His second Podium finish!) Congrats to those 3 and everyone for taking part as usual. How has all this affected the League Tables? Division 1 Mayk Drazzic has forged a 90,000 point lead with just 2 weeks left. The question now must be asked can anyone stop him from claiming the inaugural Gold Trophy? With a full battle to come Artyis won't have given up hope. The battle for 3rd place remains as gripping as ever. Roger Duncan after an unusually disappointing week loses his advantage and falls to 6th, but is still only 30,000 points behind new 3rd place man Carl Lost. In fact only 5,000 points splits 3rd from 5th - amazing considering we have gone through 10 weeks of furious battle. This is what this competition is all about. I hope you are all enjoying the fight! Division 2 We have a new leader! John Doe's 3rd place on the week lifts him above myself and Regis Knox - are scores combined fell short of his effort for Week 10. Good job John! Roasty's comeback trail continues unabated with another Podium finish - he rises into 5th and I'm going to have to put in some solid performances to retain 3rd place from the charging Roastaman! Things are also tight at the bottom - a mere 30,000 points separates 4th from 8th position. It's going to get a bit tense! Division 3 Cahir is back to winning ways with another Division 3 top score. Places remain unchanged from last week, with Gambit edging a little further ahead of Akira in the race for the final automatic promotion spot. Keep fighting boys! Emperors Plate I've said it before and I'll say it again - "We'll get you next year Sigma!" Centurion Plate A good week for Sin with competitive scores from Stele as well as the high flying John sees their lead at the top remain. Sigma stay second, but only 200 points ahead of us. COME ON KAPPA - I want our name on this trophy!!! With 2 weeks to go this is the point where pilots can really make a difference, especially those who have not been flying regularly up to this point - I would encourage Squadron Commanders to inspire their guys into action for the final push. So TFRs from Jan and Tim would be vastly appreciated for Weeks 11 and 12. Certificates No change at all in the front running positions for the 3 certificates. Tempest still in line for a double medal haul. Thats all until next week folks - have a good week flying, especially if you're a Kappan! The site was working last time I checked: http://kappa.squadron.org/W2League/start.htm Regards, FL/CM Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign ISMx4/CoB/OV [PDLN] {IWATS-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS-XTT} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan {SA: CORE) *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* "Oriundus Odium Enatus Vis Vires" ************************************************************************ Week 11 Results part 1 and Week 12: W2PL Pilots, Well we have finished the penultimate week of W2PL Season 1 and it has thrown up some interesting results. Pending a few more results the provisional top 3 this week are: 1) Cahir - 69336 (finally making it to the top) 2) Astarosta - 68998 (on the podium for the 3rd consequtive week) 3) Stark Rhavyn - 68838 (another top 3 placing for Theta's ace) So, at the moment no pilots from Division 1 making it onto the podium, whilst Division 3 get 2. Cahir and Stark will be tough to stop in Division 2 next season. Given that I'm still waiting for a few results, I'll wait until tomorrow for a full report. WEEK 12! -------- We have finally made it to the final week of W2PL Season 1, but my choice for Week 12's battle will ensure it is not over yet. I would like you to fly TC-10 "Battle for the Deathstar" - an early mission which puts you in the cockpit of the T/D - the top score for this mission is around 250,000 points so there are plenty of opportunities for moving up the tables if you fly it well. The last time I flew this I got around 110,000 - room for improvement methinks! "Once more to the breach dear friends." Good luck to you all. Algaron Week 11 Results part 2: W2PL Pilots, Just time for a quick note - I'm at work and don't want to be seen to be shirking my responsibilities........ much! No change to the Week's Top 3 - congrats to Cahir, Roasty and Stark. No change in the Division 1 and 3 tables, but Roasty swaps places with Koriel in Division 2 to move up into 4th place - what a comeback! The site is updated - peruse at your leisure. After 12 weeks of gruelling, unrelenting battle we finally have 3 Division Champions. The Award Ceremony is about to begin. Wing II has come out in full Ceremonial Regalia, the champagne is flowing, and your host Commander Algaron makes his way to the stage, trying very hard not to trip up along the way. "Ladies and Gentlemen, it is with great pleasure that I stand before you this evening to crown the champions of champions. In reverse division order I shall now announce the winners...." Division 3 ---------- There has only ever been one pilot in this race and I take my hat off to him as a worthy champion. Sigma's Cahir has been the top scorer in the Division an amazing 9 times in 12 rounds. He was also the top overall scorer for Week 11 and his total W2PL score would have seen him take 3rd place in Division 1! All in all a seriously impressive performance. Runner up in Divison 3 was Theta's ace Stark Rhavyn who was consistent throughout a season which saw him notch two overall podium finishes in Weeks 9 and 11. These two guys will surely be contenders for promotion in Division 2 next season. Joining them there will be another Sigma pilot, Gambit. Gambit's accuracy with the lasers was one of the highlights of the season and he can be proud of his achievement. Akira was the final regular participant in Division 3 and he pushed Gambit all the way for the final automatic promotion spot. Thanks for making it such an exciting run-in guys! Can I ask therefore for Lieutenant Cahir of Sigma Squadron to step forward and collect the W2PL Season 1 Bronze Trophy together with the Iron Star-Bronze Ribbon. The microphone is set up, your Wing II colleagues await, time to make your speech......! Division 2 ---------- The Division 2 race has been perhaps the most exciting of all with the lead changing hands on numerous occassions. There can, however, be only one winner and the prize goes to Sin Squadron's John Doe. His achievement is made even more emphatic given that he was down in 8th place at the half way point in the season. However, two podium finishes in the last month of the season (making 3 in total) saw him climb up the table. He took over the lead in Week 10 and held on to the finish. The man he pipped for the trophy was Sigma's Regis Knox, whose 2 podiums and million-point breaking season wasn't quite enough, but promotion to Division 1 will sweeten the blow. In third was........, erm.....me! Hard-working, consistent, but unspectacular I held off the charge of a hard-flying Roasty to take automatic promotion by a mere 5000 points. I must mention my Commanders achievement in W2PL this season. If it was not for his technical problems which prevented him from participating in Weeks 7 and 8 he would have walked away with the Silver Trophy, but his comeback from adversity was spectacular - Roasty did not finish outside of the Top 3 in the whole of the last month, and was overall winner of Week 12. His accuracy was also second to none, firing his lasers 11840 times and missing on just 154 occassions! Sadly I can't award any medals because he did not achieve 100% participation, but his efforts will be forever recorded in the Hall of Fame. However, my dear friend do not abandon hope.....read on! Ahem.........Lieutenant Commander John Doe of Sin Squadron if you would please come up to the stage to collect your prize. The shiny W2PL Season 1 Silver Trophy and Iron Star-Bronze Wings is yours. I hope you haven't had too much to drink because it's speech time! Please no Gwyneth Paltrow style weeping either! Division 1 ---------- Well this is the blue-ribbon event of the evening - the crowning of our ultimate champion. And so without further ado I am delighted to announce Theta's Mayk Drazzic W2PL Division 1 Champion for Season 1. Mayk has led the chasing pack from Week 2 in a season which has seen him on the podium an incredible 6 times (4 as overall week winner). At one stage it looked like Sigma's Artyis was reeling him in, but Mayk responded in style with three consequtive week wins from Week 8 to 10. This opened up a gap which was too large to close over the final two weeks. Congratulations Mayk, your place as the best pilot in Wing II is secure........at least until next season! As I said Artyis was the main challenger to Mayk's pre-eminence all season. He notched up 4 podium finishes in the first 7 weeks, 3 of whic were as overall winner. However, failing to get amongst the top 3 in any of the final 5 weeks will tell the tale of why he was finally unable to close the gap completely. A valiant effort no less and one which he can be very proud of. Maybe next season. The race for Third Place in the Division 1 was as exciting as it gets with the order between Tod, Tempest, Carl and Roger Duncan changing on a weekly basis. The final outcome sees Roger Duncan scrape back into 3rd with a top scoring effort amongst Division 1 pilots in Week 12. This saw him jump 3 places in the final week! With all 4 of these fine pilots breaking the million point barrier the difference between 3rd and Carl Lost in 6th was a mere 10,000 points. Roger Duncan's margin of victory over Tod in 4th was 215 points - absolutely thrilling! Well done boys. The moment he's been waiting 3 months for..........Lieutenant Commader Mayk Drazzic of Theta Squadron please make your way to the stage for the glittering W2PL Season 1 Gold Trophy and Iron Star-Silver Wings awaits you. Don't forget your speech notes - nothing worse than having to ad-lib in front of so many people when you've been drinking so much Theta Beer mixed with champagne - a dangerous cocktail on any occasion! At this point in the proceedings we take a break from the formalites and get the mid-session interval music and dancing going. Also a chance for toilet breaks! From the look of some of my Kappa colleagues they look about ready to burst! Roasty also wants a chance to impress a couple of ladies that he's caught the eye of - he makes his final checks - medals polished, hair checked, jokes at hand, and more importanly still just about sober enough to walk! - "Lieutenant Colonel Astarosta at your service......." is the last we hear as he moves in. Seemingly over before it has begun the music fades out and the second part of the ceremony commences. Commander Algaron returns to this stage, but unfortunately he has had too much to drink by this stage and falls flat on his face climbing the steps! Shaking off the embarassment the Squadron awards are announced. Emperors Plate -------------- Never any real doubts over who would win the Emperors Plate - the prize awarded to the Squadron recording the highest total score over the course of the season. With 87 entries to Kappa's 62, Sigma have recorded a 2 million point margin of victory over their nearest rivals. Seven of their pilots participated in all 12 weeks this season and with a current full squad of 12 pilots it seems that Sigma's pre-eminence in this category will be long-lived. Kappa and Theta will have to ensure 100% participation next season if they are to challenge. And so I call Major Todbringer to the stage to receive the Emperors Plate on behalf of Sigma Squadron. Centurion Plate --------------- The Centurion Plate goes to the most consistent squadron in W2PL given that it is awarded for the highest average score (Total Score/Entries). Theta led the way for much of the early stages of the season before Sin took over the lead in Week 6. They haven't looked back since then, especially helped by the prolific scoring of Division 2 champion John Doe. Their final margin of victory was an impressive 5000 points over Sigma and Kappa (who were separated into 2nd and 3rd by just 600 points!). Nothing can be taken away from our worthy champions.......Sin Squadron. Lieutenant Colonel Stele Pelleaon if you would kindly come forward to collect the Centurion Plate on behald of Sin Squadron. Certificate Awards ------------------ Finally we come to the awards for the Total Kills and Accuracy leaders. The "Kill Leader" certificate and Iron Star-Bronze Wings goes to Mayk Drazzic who has led practically from the start to finish way ahead of the John Doe and Astarosta with an impressive 734 kills. As stated earlier the technical problems faced by Astarosta prevented him from competing for either of the accuracy awards after Week 7. This allowed for his fellow Kappan Tempest to take up pole position in both the "Sharp Shooter" (laser accuracy) and "Fox One" (warhead accuracy) leaderboards. Despite intense competition from Gambit and Artyis on lasers, and Carl Lost and Cahir with warheads, Temp has held on to win both categories. As a result not one but two Iron Star-Bronze Wings will be coming his way. So to end tonight's formal proceedings I would like to invite Mayk back to the stage along with Tempest to collect your Certificates and Medals, assuming of course that either of you are in any condition to speak, let alone stand and walk!! That's it folks, the curtain draws, the lights dim, it's all over........until we begin all over again in Season II. We've got the hall booked until the early hours and the bar is still open so enjoy the rest of the night. The music re-starts, the winners brandish their prizes and medals for a group photograph, and everyone gradually moves toward the dance floor. Algaron finds Reb to get his hands on a bottle of imported Corellian Whisky - hey, I may be drunk but if I can still see straight I can't be drunk enough! I then wander off to find Carl Lost to continue our converstations on the virtues of Karl Marx's philosophy and stare at the stars like I always do when I've had way too much alcohol. Oh and has anyone seen Roasty since the interval? A good night will be had by all methinks! For full results from the Week 12 and the final tables feel free to check out the two following sites. I have also attached the full results spreadsheet to this mail. Once the main site is back up and running you will be able to see all the trophies with the winners names engraved therein together with a complete site update as well. http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/results.htm http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/tables.htm In the cold light of day the final few unavoidable decisions regarding promotion and relegation need to be resolved. I will be sending out a separate email with these details over the next few days, but I will let it be known that due to some pilot retirements, playoffs will be taking place featuring some pilots finishing outside of the automatic promotion positions to decide who goes up and who comes down. Watch this space for details. It's also a bit early to start talking about Season 2, but I am hoping it will be bigger and better than last year. I would like all of Wing II to compete if at all possible so register your interest with me if you wish to participate. I anticipate a start in a 4-6 weeks time. That's all for Season 1 folks. I hope those taking part have enjoyed participating as much as I have running it.
