Wing II Pilot League report: ************************************ Week 1: W2PL Pilots, Well here we go!!! Welcome to the first week of W2PL Season II - over the course of the next 10 weeks we will find out who the best, and most consistent pilots in the history of Wing II really are. For your first weekly assignment I would like you all to fly FREE-TIE 56 "Drizzt #1". This is a T/D mission so it should be a walk in the park for all our experienced pilots. The deadline for submitting your completed TFR to me is 6PM GMT on Sunday 9th September. The usual rules apply from last season in that if you require an extension you must email me before the deadline or you will receive a zero score for the week. Remember this competition is open to all Wing II pilots and Wing II veterans, irrespective of whether you flew the playoff mission. As you all know Division 1 and Division 2 consist of 10 pilots, whereas Division 3 will carry all the remaining active pilots. After Week 1 has concluded I will create an individual mailing list so that only active pilots will receive my weekly emails. If anyone has any comments and questions please feel free to email me, but I think everything should be straightforward. The mission is attached - if you want to become an active W2PL pilot all you have to do is fly it and submit the TFR to me. I will be updating the website in the next couple of days so keep checking back for the latest news. Squadron CMDR's please forward this on to all of your pilots and encourage full participation. Good luck to everyone taking part!! The History and Pilots pages have both been updated and there is a new Knockout page for the Cup competition which will run alongside the League. I have brought the Message Board back online so feel free to post to your hearts content. I have also put a couple of Polls on the News page which will I will change on a weekly basis - the first two are fairly obvious.... "Who's going to win?" - please take the time to cast your votes. Regarding the Knockout cup just to clear things up - we won't be flying any additional missions - but for all the even numbered weeks your score will be put up against an opponent with the highest moving to the next round. Round 1 will consist of 32 pilots - if there are less then certain pilots will receive a bye to Round 2. The draw will be entirely random and held live in Airlock 54 on Sunday at around 9PM GMT - I need a volunteer to help me with this - I will have a list of 32 names in no particular order, and my helper will select numbers randomly to determine who plays who. Any volunteers? Feel free to come along to witness the excitement (and despair!) of a live draw. Finally regarding medals for winners this Season I haven't got this official yet, but I am going to propose the following: All Division winners - Iron Star (Silver Wings) All Division runners up - Iron Star (Bronze Wings) Knockout Cup winner - Iron Star (Silver Wings) Certificate winners - Iron Star (Bronze Wings) Any pilot winning in two IS-BW categories will be upgraded to an IS-SW. Unfortunately multiple IS-SW's cannot be given out for a single comp so if one pilot won both the Division and Knockout Cup a single IS-SW would still be the reward. However you would also receive two name-engraved Trophy created by yours truly and bragging rights for about a century! Anyway the site is in the usual place..... http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/W2PL/ Regards, FL/CPT Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign BS/PC/ISMx4/CoB/OV [PLDN] {IWATS-ASP-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS-XTT} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan DC {SA: CORE} *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* *Kappa Squadron Tailor* *Kappa Squadron Historian* *********************************************************************** W2PL Week 1 results and week 2: W2PL Pilots, With quite a few extensions outstanding I'll wait till tomorrow for a full rundown of the Week 1 results. The positions to date can be found on the Results page of the W2PL site at.... http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/W2PL/ A couple of quick things - with Reb Crush's retirement another place has opened up in Division 2 - the lucky pilot is Sin Squadron's Ninja who came second to Hermann in the playoff - congrats Ninj - motivation to get the TFR in methinks! Secondly, as you can see this email has only gone to participating W2PL pilots who have either flown week 1, flew the initial playoff, or expressed an interest in taking part. If you want to be removed let me know. Also Squadron CMDR's may want to to encourage further participation from their pilots in their WSRs because they won't receive this email. Sigma have an impressive 10 pilots participating this Season - I thought we Kappans might have a chance of taking them on this year for total points, but that looks doubtful now. On a sad note the third place Squadron from last year, Theta, only have 2 pilots participating so far. Finally, with Tod's help we drew the First Round of the W2PL Cup this afternoon - I will announce the full draw in tomorrow's email, but rest assured there are some very exciting matchups. Thanks for your help today Tod! In closing I will announce your Week 2 assignment - remember your score will count for both the League and Cup so there's an extra incentive to fly hard. The mission to fly is TIE-FREE 160 "Colossus: Gold Rush" - the usual deadline and extension rules apply. Best of luck to you all, FL/CPT Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign BS/PC/ISMx4/CoB/OV [PLDN] {IWATS-ASP-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS-XTT} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan DC {SA: CORE} *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* *Kappa Squadron Tailor* *Kappa Squadron Historian* Extended Week 1 results and W2PL Cup: W2PL Pilots, Well most of the late results are in so I can now announce the Week 1 scores. Congratulations go to Roasty for continuing his form shown at the end of Season I with the weeks highest score. Also a late entry from veteran pilot CM Hawkins was good for second place overall in his debut outing in W2PL - very well done Hawkins! John Doe claimed the third podium position to add to his already impressive record. A quick rundown of the scores by Division...... Division 1 ---------- Roasty shows his class yet again with an impressive victory. Last years Silver Trophy winner John Doe claims second spot and another Kappa pilot Tempest rounds out the top 3. Artyis, the hot favorite for the Gold Trophy on the W2PL Poll with 6 votes so far, comes in 4th nearly 10,000 points behind the leader. Last years champion Mayk Drazzic languishes down in 10th after a shaky start to his campaign. However, nobody will write off the chances of the man who placed in the overall Top 3 on no less than 6 occassions in Season I. With 9 rounds still to come there is plenty of time to make up the points differential. Nobody should be losing heart yet. Division 2 ---------- Much of the early voting put Cahir and Esmael as neck-and-neck favorites for this Season's Silver Trophy. They both performed right up to expectations placing 2nd and 3rd respectively, but it was Stele who suprised them both with a late entry and the weeks highest score in Division 2. His confidence must now be sky high going into the rest of the Season. With Herman's result still to come and 3 non-flyers the bottom of Division 2 makes for fairly dismal reading - come on guys, let's take to our cockpits in Week 2! There is still plenty to play for. Division 3 ---------- This years race in Division 3 looks really exciting with no fewer than 10 entries for Week 1 - great effort guys - keep it up! Hawkins supreme effort wins the Division by nearly 20,000 points! His colleague Zyrax makes it a successful start for Kappa's W2PL debut makers. Akira's experience in the cockpit is good for 3rd place. The scores below that are all very, very close and bode well for a highly exciting Season of competition. Great start everyone! W2PL Cup -------- With the help of Tod the First Round of the Cup has been drawn. As you should now be aware this competition runs parallel to the main League. Your result for Week 2 will count for both the usual League and in one-on-one knockout matchup with another W2PL pilot. With 32 pilots registered there are no byes. The full draw can be seen in all it's glory on the W2PL site on the Knockout page. You can peruse this at your leisure to see who you are up against, but I will comment on a few of the really exciting matchups. Dash vs. Hermann - Kappa's young guns - a great potential fight. Regis vs. Nergal - battle of the Sigma boys !! Cahir vs. Gambit - battle of the Simga boys - Part II !! John Doe vs. Jon - this comp. ain't big enough for the two of 'em! Artyis vs. Ford - Wing II's big boys meet head on! Algaron vs. Stele - blood, sweat and tears all the way in this one! There are certainly a lot of mouth wateringly exciting ties there - I hope it will add some real fervour to the scoring in Week 2 - a lot of pride is on the line - make yourself proud! That should do it for Week 1 - let's hope for even more excitement and 100% participation in Week 2. Full Pilot and Squadron Tables will be drawn up next Monday. The site as always is at...... http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/W2PL/ Regards, FL/CPT Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign BS/PC/ISMx4/CoB/OV [PLDN] {IWATS-ASP-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS-XTT} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan DC {SA: CORE} *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* *Kappa Squadron Tailor* *Kappa Squadron Historian* *********************************************************************** W2PL Week 2 results and Week 3: W2PL Pilots, Sorry for the delay in getting these results out to you, but I've had some problems with my Hotmail account in the last couple of days. So without further ado here are the podium finishers in Week 2. 1) John Doe 61598 2) Zyrax 61590 3) Cahir 61544 The scoring was very close all round, but these 3 have topped the tables. John Doe and Cahir are no strangers to these lofty heights but Zyrax makes an impressive showing in only his second outing in W2PL - well done guys! Here is a quick run down division by division. Division 1 ========== John Doe has been on the podium in both the opening weeks, but is still unable to overhaul Roasty at the top of the table. Things remain tight throughout this competitive division. Tempest is still showing the consistency of last year, and the competition favorite Artyis is very close behind. With Mayk Drazzic now out of the running and unfortunately destined for relegation the battle to avoid the drop will likely be incredibly intense. Algaron's performance was sadly lacking this week, but the fight to avoid the drop will doubtless go right to the wire and promises to be as exciting as any championship race. Division 2 ========== We could be looking at a really exciting tussle for the Silver Trophy this Season. Pre-competiton favourites, Cahir and Esmael, will certainly be involved, along with a rejuvenated Stele. Ford, Koriel and Hermann will be fighting tooth and nail to keep up the pace of the front runners. The fight for relegation looks virtually none existent in Division 2. With Gambit, Ninja, and Shakur not flying in either of the first two weeks the drop to Division 3 looks unavoidable for them. Division 3 ========== Zyrax put in the performance of the week for me with his second place overall. Jon also posted a magnificent score, and these two lead the way in the race for the Bronze Trophy. Even in this early stage it looks like Nergal will be favorite for the final promotion spot, especially with Dash now only flying in the Cup rounds, and early division leader Hawkins not flying in Week 2, dropping out of the running to 8th as a result. Knockout Round 1 ================ Excitement all the way in the first round of the cup. The best result of the round was Zyrax's stunning win over my old pal Tod. Results in general were close across the board with the likes of John Doe, Regis, Carl Lost and Artyis recording very narrow victories. In two of the matchups both pilots failed to fly and as a result they both get eliminated. This proves to be good news for Jon and Tod who will now qualify for Round 2 as the two highest scoring runners up. One result to come will see Akira qualify over the retiring Mayk Drazzic as long as he gets his computer sorted out! I will be holding the draw for Round 2 on Friday evening. Squadron Plates =============== Both of the defending champions from last Season lead the way again this term - Sigma in total score, and Sin in average score. Certificates ============ Early days yet. Roasty has notched a few more kills, and Artyis has hit the target on a couple more occassions than the rest of us. Things are much too close to call with warheads - looks like we'll need a couple of outings in the Missile Boat to sort this one out!!! Week 3 Assignment ================= I have chosen one of the new missions as the assignment for Week 3. The orders are to fly TIE-FREE 167 "I Just Work Here" (attached). The deadline for this is 6PM GMT on Sunday 7th October - you all have extra time given the delays encountered this week. Good luck everyone. The site has been fully updated and can be viewed at the usual place........ http://www21.brinkster.com/algaronx/W2PL/ Regards, FL/CPT Algaron/Kappa 2-1/Wing II/SSSD Sovereign BS/PC/ISMx4/LoC/CoB/OV [PLDN] {IWATS-AIM-ASP-CBX-GFX-ICQ-IIC/1/2/3-M/1/2-SM/2-TM-TT-VBS-XTT} PRT Algaron Xerves (Sith)/Archanis of Taldryan DC {SA: CORE} *Kappa Squadron Webmaster* *Kappa Squadron Tailor* *Kappa Squadron Historian* *********************************************************************** W2PL Week 3 results: (should be here soon) *********************************************************************** W2PL Cup and week 4 assignment: W2PL Pilots, With quite a few extensions carrying over until tomorrow I'll delay my report until then. The provisional results can be viewed on the website. I can however announce news for Week 4. Firstly with the kind help of John Doe the draw for Round 2 of the W2PL Cup has been made, and damn is it good ........ Tempest vs. Carl Lost Todbringer vs. Roger Duncan Dash vs. Nurel Turr Akira vs. Esmael Rasxus Artyis vs. Cahir John Doe vs. Astarosta Zyrax vs. Stele Jon vs. Regis The assignment for the week is FREE-TIE 121 "Psi Squadron Reunion" (attached) - more T/A fun designed by Wing II veteran COL Sasquatch. The deadline for everyone is 6PM GMT on Sunday 14th October. Remember everyone flies the same mission, even those (like myself) who have already been knocked out of the Cup - we still have the League to compete for. Also please send your TFRs to my new email address (this one) - I still check my Hotmail account, but I'm trying to phase it out. One last thing - I noticed that this mission does not come with a battle1.lfd file - I'm sure most of you know what to do to create your own, but if you have problems ask your Squadron CMDR's or myself about how to get it all to work correctly. Thats it for now - report and tables out tomorrow - good luck to everyone taking part! Regards.
